About Richard
I'm Richard Beech, a British English teacher with more than 30 years' experience teaching students from different countries, backgrounds and levels.
Today I teach online, one-to-one, from the UK, working with adult students around the world on General English, IELTS and Cambridge examination preparation.
Experience makes a difference
I've been teaching English for more than 30 years.
During that time, I've taught students at many different levels and from many different countries, from learners developing their basic communication skills to advanced students preparing for demanding English examinations.
That experience means I've seen most of the difficulties English learners run into, many times over, and I know what actually helps. It also means I can quickly see where an individual student is losing marks or losing confidence, and what to do about it.
And because I also speak Spanish, I have a particularly good understanding of the difficulties Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking learners encounter when learning English.

How I teach
I believe that individual lessons should be exactly that: individual. Rather than following the same course for every student, I plan lessons around your current English, your reasons for learning and the areas in which you most need to improve.
Because I teach one-to-one, your lesson isn't divided between ten or fifteen students. Whatever your goal, we'll identify what you need to work on and build your lessons around it.
Lessons are friendly and professional. Students tell me they feel relaxed enough to speak freely and make mistakes, which is exactly when the most progress happens.
